In the past, rabbit glue was produced from rabbit skins. Today, the glue only roughly resembles those properties and contains hardly any fat. This shortcoming can be counteracted by adding small amounts of beef tallow or linseed oil to the gesso. Rabbit glue has higher gel strength and viscosity compared to traditional hide glues.
