Imitation gold leaf and composition gold – all that glitters is not gold
Imitation gold leaf (composition gold leaf, dutch metal), aluminium leaf (imitation silver leaf) and copper leaf can be used to “gild” interior furniture and large surfaces that are not required to be durable.
We offer the following selection of colours:
- Colour 0 consists of 100% copper
- Colour 1 consists of 90% copper – 10% zinc = dark
- Colour 2 consists of 88% copper – 12% zinc = red
- Colour 2 1/2 consists of 85% copper – 15% zinc = gold
Aluminium leaf is made from 100% aluminium, copper leaf colour 0 from pure copper and imitation gold leaf / composition gold from a copper-zinc alloy. An ingot of the metal / alloy is rolled out into a long ribbon and then cut into squares. These squares are inserted between special papers and then beaten into thin sheets into a 16 x 16 cm format using automated gold beating machines.
Please note the sensitivity of copper leaf, aluminium leaf and composition gold when processing. These metals react to UV radiation, humidity and fluctuating temperatures by oxidising.
