Gold leaf directly from your gold leaf factory

Gold (Aurum) has a melting point of 1064°C and is the most important precious metal used in the manufacture of gold leaf. Gold can be alloyed with metals such as silver, copper, palladium and platinum.

These “blends” result in a large selection of gold leaf colours, with highly unique properties. Depending on the components of the alloy, the gold leaf colours impress with their metallic sheen, and are available in white, yellow, green, citron, red or grey shades.

Gold leaf type: loose or transfer (patent)

Loose – This gold leaf is inserted into a booklet of tissue paper and can only be used in interior spaces. The gold leaf is either applied with a gilding brush directly from the booklet, or can be removed from the booklet using a gilder’s knife and cut to the desired format on a gilder’s cushion. The gold leaf is picked up with a gilder’s tip and applied to the surface that is to be gilded. The following gilding techniques are suitable for gold leaf in the loose variant: oil gilding – water based goldsize – Architec T 40 – water gilding – glass gilding.

Transfer (patent)  – This gold leaf is suitable for interior and exterior gilding (from 23.5 carat). The gold leaf is pressed onto tissue paper and can thus be handled without any problems. Using scissors, the tissue paper, along with the gold leaf, is cut to the desired format. The transfer gold leaf – either complete or cut sheets – is placed onto the surface which has been prepared with adhesive and is still slightly tacky, and light pressure is applied. The tissue paper is then removed from the gold leaf and the gilding work is brushed over and polished. The following gilding techniques are suitable for gold leaf in the transfer variant: oil gilding – water based goldsize – Architec T 40 – glass gilding

The gold leaf tissue paper booklets are manufactured in-house by Eytzinger

Custom gold leaf colours can save you a great deal of time and money when working on a restoration project

For some restoration projects it is worth having a special alloy produced. At this point we should always consider the costs of time-consuming tinting. Tinting is generally an emergency solution and will not necessarily be conducive to future restoration. A matching colour tone will generally save the gilder a great deal of time and money.
